How Can a Neti Pot Work to Defeat Sinus Infections?
Wed, 30 Dec 2009

I wasn't familiar with this not too long ago, until I looked into it some and learned that it could help me with chronic sinus infections and continual common colds. I found that using the Neti pot once per day help keep me much healthier and I was sick much less often. I was curious on what the Neti pot actually did to help me stay healthy and sick free. It turns out that what the Neti pot does is a common medical treatment called saline nasal irrigation. This is a fancy word for rinsing out the sinuses with salt water.

Apparently in some people, the mucus system doesn't work as it should to help keep bacteria and viruses from making a home in the sinus cavity. There are small hairs in the lining is the sinuses that are supposed to continually move out mucus to the back of the throat the and nose. These little hairs, called cilia, can get bogged down with too much mucus and not be able to move anything out of the sinus cavity as it should.

Using the Neti pot, a saline solution rinses off the cilia and all the nooks and crannies of the sinus and help move out mucus. During the nasal irrigation the cilia are cleaned and are no able to move out mucus as they should. The nasal irrigation also flushes out bacteria, pollen, dust, viruses, or anything else that is not supposed to be lodged in your sinuses. Using the Neti pot to flush out your sinus helps keep your cilia healthy and working as they should. That is a short and unscientific explanation of how the Neti pot helps to keep your healthy. Nasal irrigation is recommended by doctors for patients who have chronic sinus infections, if used properly, brings relief to most people.
