You say you want a fitness resolution...well, you know...we're going to have to start with your head.
You say you've got a real solution...well, you know...you'd better free your mind instead!
The Beatles were on the right track when they said "you better free your mind instead" on their famous song revolution. Before you even get started on your fitness resolution this new year, start at the root of the problem - your mind!
Everyone wants to do something good for themselves at the beginning a new year, whether it be a diet, make more money or get fit - they are always started with the best intentions. Most people are drunk from holiday splendour - time off, lots of food and the spirit of the new coming year! With all this amazing stuff going on it's easy to start making big fitness resolution promises.
How badly do you want to get into amazing shape? How much time are you willing to spend per day to get there? What is the end goal of your fitness resolution? Do you want to lose 10,20,40 pounds? Are you going to use diet and exercise to get there? Start answering these questions to get yourself mentally prepared to do what it takes to get to your goal! When you've answered them write them down on sticky notes and post them in places you have to look on a regular basis, this will serve as a constant reminder of your goals and what it's going to take to achieve them.
Next step, stop "trying", I don't mean give up on your fitness resolution - I mean stop trying to do things and just do them! "Trying" is the close cousin of "excuse", you want to remove the word try from your vocabulary. Think about the last time you told someone you were trying to do something - "hey, I'm trying this new diet" - bet that didn't last long. When you're trying something it usually isn't permanent, that means you've already framed it as a failure. You want to frame something like a fitness resolution as a long term perpetual goal - more like this "this time next year I'm still going to be in great shape!" A great way to add a more permanent slant is a goal like this - "I'm going to get fit so I never need another fitness resolution again!" Think permanent!
The final step is finding a great program and sticking with it! If you're like me you prefer things to be laid out step by step - what exercises to do, how to do them, when to do them and why they're good for you. The same applies for diet - what to eat, when to eat, how much to eat and why it's good for you to eat it. It's important to find a plan that has it all of that, well, you'll be glad to know that I've done all the work for you! I've found a great program that provides all this information and more!
