Knee Injuries, Causes, & Symptoms
Wed, 02 Dec 2009

We count on our legs to do the most basic of functions - getting around. If we lose our mobility, then we lose the ability to get places and accomplish things. If you have ever experienced a knee injury you know how debilitating it can be. You are normally unable to accomplish things due to pain and having to recuperate. There is legal help for people that experience injuries caused by conditions or people that were beyond their control.

Damage to the ligaments and tendons in the legs are a main cause of pain. The knee is a central part where tendons, bones, ligaments, and cartilage converge. Most of these parts are stretched when doing minor exercises, so when any of these parts become damaged pain may shoot through different parts of the knee or leg.

There are different signs to look out for to determine if your knee is injured:

-Inflammation or pain
-Swelling or redness
-Popping or snapping sounds
-Inability to bend your leg due to aches or stiffness
-Inability to walk short distances
-Inability to move your knee in multiple directions
-Limping or dragging your feet

Knee injuries also include hyperextension, which can cause ligaments to tear and severe amounts of pain. People with dislocated kneecaps experience pain due to their kneecaps scraping the nerves of the knee. More familiar types of injuries include osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, where deterioration due to overuse and age play a role.

Overuse or stress will also cause the knees to wear and weaken. Some major causes of injuries are due to major impacts to the knee that may result after a fall or major accident. Any exercise that requires a person move in different directions or causes the knee to pivot on its axis can also cause pain or injury. Other candidates for injury are those who place a lot of weight on their bodies or perform muscular exercises.

Someone who has had a previous knee injury is more likely to acquire another injury than someone who has not. Some people may work or be forced to work at a point that his or her knees are unable to handle due to misalignment of the knees or legs.
