How to Breathe Efficiently Through Your Nose
Wed, 02 Dec 2009

This is one of the most important rules as it concerns proper healthy breathing- breathing through the nose. Breathing through the mouth affects the development of the thyroid gland and more severely in children leads to retarded mental development.

The nose provide for various defense mechanisms preventing impurities and extremely cold air from entering the body. In the nostrils, there are hairs that trap dust, tiny insects and other particles that may cause harm to the lungs and this is not the case if one uses the mouth.

After the nostrils is the wind pipe which is well covered by a layer of mucus membranes where the excessive air is warmed to the lung temperatures and the dust particles which escaped the nostril hairs are finally trapped. Next, in the inner most part is the glands which fight off any germs which were not prevented or were unpreventable by the other parts of the nose. Then there is the olfactory organ which helps in the sense of smell, this detects poisonous gases which are harmful to our health. The olfactory glands have another function which is to absorb prana (energy) from the air.

Breathing through the mouth denies the body all these benefits as the mouth does not provide for a mechanism for fighting and preventing pathogens from entering the body. Mouth breathing is not advisable because it does not help in the regulation of oxygen to carbon dioxide ratio in the body in terms of replacement of that which has left the body.

It may seem easy but it is very vital that one uses the nose for breathing in that these simple benefits make the difference between a healthy and an unhealthy individual. The nose regulates the amount of oxygen intake and the carbon dioxide out put creating a balance which the body can work with.
