A Urinary Tract Infection is not an uncommon problem, and occurs in a lot of people. Some UTIs are caused by lack of personal hygiene, but many times there is no particular cause. Some people can just be more susceptible to developing them than others. UTIs are also common in pregnant women. You can go to your doctor and get a prescription antibiotic, which may or may not work. Typically, if it is your first UTI the antibiotic will help, but the more often you have them, the less reliable the antibiotic becomes. Additionally, if the infection isn't completely clear when you stop taking the antibiotics, it will come right back. There are home remedies that you can try; many people swear by them.
1. The first think you can do is drink unsweetened cranberry juice. Using cranberry juice to fight off a UTI is a home remedy, which has been used for generations. Although it may not be clear how it works, it is clear that it does work.
2. Drink lots of water. Since the infection is in your urinary tract, you can help by flushing out the infection. Drink 100 ounces or more of water each day until the UTI symptoms are gone. Obviously drinking this much water can be difficult, so try drinking mineral water with a splash or cranberry juice.
3. Nettle tea is another popular cure for a UTI. It can be purchased at practically any health food store. Prepare it the same you would any other hot tea, and enjoy it several times a day. Regularly drinking nettle tea can also ward off oncoming UTIs.
4. A diet rich in raw fruits and vegetables will help you avoid getting a UTI in the first place. The high level of antioxidants and the soluble fibers will help keep your urinary tract infection free all the time.
