Removing Tonsil Stones With a Q-Tip - How to Remove a Tonsil Stone With a Q-Tip
Wed, 25 Nov 2009

In this article you are going to read about how to remove tonsil stones with a Q-tip.

Tonsil stones are a real bugger to have and they can be quite disastrous for your social life. They cause bad breath, ear pain and sore throat just to mention a few symptoms. They can also be quite uncomfortable if they grow big. You can experience a choking sensation and have difficult swallowing. If you have problems with these stones then you need to learn how to remove them by yourself at home.

If a stone is giving you trouble and you need to remove it then using a Q-tip can be a very effective way. To remove the tonsil stone you simply press or massage the area where the tonsil stone is located. It's easy if you can see the tonsil stone but you can do this with stones that are hidden in the tonsil crypts as well. You might need to perform a circular motion on the tonsils until you can see the white stone. Try testing around a bit and see what motion that seems to be the most effective.

Be sure that you use a Q-tip that isn't to flexible. I had this problem and the Q-tip was shaped like a U before I could generate enough pressure to get the stone out. With this said, you should not press too hard on your tonsil. If you do this then you can cause bleeding and pain. There is also risk of necrotic tissue (dead tissue) if you are too violent when removing the tonsil stone.

Now a bit of a warning..

I know that a lot of people likes to poke around in the mouth with their fingers trying to remove these white bumps. Don't do this!

You fingers have loads of bacteria on them and you can risk getting a tonsil infection by transferring bacteria from your hands down the throat. Do not do this!

For this reason you should also try to disinfect the Q-tip you are using. Soap and water will work fine.
