Whether you have noticed that you are feeling a little fatigued and sniffley, or you have noticed that your friends or loved ones are suffering those symptoms, it is time to step and do something about it! With cold and flu season right on top of us, it is important to boost your immunity and figure out what you can do to make sure that the germs stop before they reach you. There are plenty of things to keep in mind when you are thinking about making sure that you don't have to spend a week recovering from your illness, so check out a few important items to boost your immunity!
First, are you getting enough sleep? We all know that we feel better when we have gotten enough sleep, and this is because our bodies are repairing themselves. When you sleep, your body devotes resources to repairing the damage done to it during the day. This means that you should get into bed early and that you should get the sleep that you need. Remember that everyone has different sleep needs, and if you need nine or ten hours to feel rested, do as your body tells you!
With the cold setting in and with it getting every more inclined to rain and sleet out there, you might be inclined to reach for the prepackaged food. This is a poor idea; as a matter of fact, you need to eat as well as you can during this time of year. Make sure that you are eating a well balanced diet with a lot of fruits and vegetables. Squash are a good way to get a lot of vitamins, as are sweet potatoes, and both are widely available. Vitamin C and Vitamin D is particularly important when you want to beat the flu. Avoid the junk food that is so popular at this time of year and you will find that you are going to be feeling a lot better.
Do not forget to keep yourself hydrated. When the heaters kick on, your body is going to feel as though the moisture has been sucked right out of it, so make sure to replace it. Drink your full eight glasses of water and you will stay much healthier. Getting enough water will prevent your sinuses from drying out and this can prevent irritation and even infection as the cold and flu season drags on.
Finally, get your exercise! It's not fun to think about exercise when you just want to curl up in front of a movie, but it will be much better for you. Bundle up warmly and go for a jog, or head to the gym where you can finish off your exercises with a dip in the whirlpool. Keeping your body in good shape and keeping your metabolism high can keep the germs from getting a good grip on you!
