Three Cures For Excessive Sweating
Tue, 10 Nov 2009

While summer is a season to look up to for most people, for nearly 8 million people, the summer is a terror. Imagine sweating up to 5x more than the average person? How do you manage social situations? How are you intimate with a lover without causing revulsion? How do you cure excessive sweating?

In this article, we we will take a look at three of the more common cures for overactive sweat glands.

Does ETS Cure Excessive Sweating?
The most drastic method is surgery. In Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy, or ETS, a portion of the sympathetic nerve trunk, which is responsible for the excessive sweating is clamped. A camera is is inserted into the chest, making it possible to see the nerve chain. The satisfaction rate is between 85-95%. However, some 2% regret the surgery. The reason they regret the surgery is that many patients experience compensatory sweating. In other words, they begin to sweat in areas where they did not have copious sweating before such as the back. This makes ETS not necessarily the best way to cure over sweating.

Acupuncture May Cure Excessive Sweating
Acupuncture involves inserting needles in certain acupoints in a patients body. Acupoints are locations in the body that acupuncturists stimulate to balance the flow of energy or chi in the body. There are several hundred of these acupoints distributed throughout the body. Chinese medicine practitioners believe that stimulating the accupoints redistributes the flow of chi, re-balance ying yang and therefore bring health. Some believe wholeheartedly in acupuncture as a cure for excessive sweating while some say it doesn't work.

Kava Kava As a Cure for Excessive Sweating
Kava Kava, scientific name Piper Methysticum has properties that make it a good cure for excessive sweating. This plant which grows in Hawaii and other Pacific islands has been known to decrease the amount of sweat produced. Kava Kava tea relaxes the nervous system, which in return decreases the incidence of sweating. Side effects of drinking Kava Kava tea may include numbness in the mouth, dizziness and headaches so it is important to check with your MD or naturopath before trying this method.

The above three cures for sweating may not work for everyone, but it can provide relief for some. There are other natural methods which warrant a second glance. The general rule is that if one method doesn't work, try another.

These three cures may not work for you. It's important to look at all your options and choose the cure which works for you. Explore this excessive sweating cure page to learn of a method that may be even more effective than the ones listed above.
