Forget the diet. Forget all the things that you should be doing and the things that you should not be eating. Just take some these common sense steps into mind and you will begin to live a healthier lifestyle without the pain, suffering, craving and starvation of a typical diet.
Muffins - These sound innocent enough, especially with the word 'bran' in front. Granted, they are better for you than a stack of pancakes soaked in syrup or a sugary cereal. However, check the label. Some of the little 'bread mushrooms' pack as much fat in them as a hamburger! Choose a brand that provides a low fat bran alternative instead.
Park in the Shade - The next time you go to the store or the mall, don't waste your time looking for that perfect parking place next to the door. It doesn't exist! The perfect parking place is the spot in the exact opposite direction. Pick a spot that is as far from the door that you are comfortable in walking from and back to with your packages. Try and find a spot by a shady tree. Not only will you get some extra steps in your day but your car will be nice and cool compared to those roasting in the sun next to the front door.
And it only takes a couple of minutes more and walking is one of the best exercises you can do for yourself day in, day out. What? No shopping cart return? Oh well, looks like you might have to walk a little more. Lucky you!
Fruit - Leave the skin on. The skin on fruits like apples & pears are packed with healthy fiber and nutritional value. Also, opt for your fruits first. The fiber in melons, grapefruit and oranges fill you fast and with vitamins and minerals. Then go for the bad stuff and you will eat a lot less of them.
Omelet - Go ahead, have that three-egg omelet. Really! Eggs are good for you...in moderation. Just have one whole egg and just the whites from the other two. You really will not miss the fat and cholesterol from the other missing egg yolks and you won't be able to tell much of difference....except in your waistline.
Steps on Stairs - Walking thru the mall, you come to an escalator that will take you upstairs to your destination. I will bet that if you look around there is a staircase close by too. Leave the escalator for the fat people. You actually will begin to look for stairs and avoid the escalators and elevators because that is an easy way to get a little more calorie burning in on your trip. And not just at the mall. Look for the staircase at work, at the gym, at your kid's school...everywhere.
Bring on the Bacon - If you must have bacon, opt for Canadian-style bacon. You can have twice the amount of Canadian bacon for half the amount of fat compared to regular bacon.
