Hangover Relief
Wed, 04 Nov 2009

The morning after a long night of drinking is often when people regret drinking the night before. You are having fun while you're drinking but the resulting headache, fogginess, vomiting, and fatigue rarely seem worth it. There are things you can do to help prevent, minimize or treat your hangover to make the experience more enjoyable. Obviously, the first thing you can do is limit the amount you drink. Drink until you feel buzzed, and then stop, or reduce your intake to one drink an hour after that. Avoid mixing beer and hard liquor, that alone can make you throw up.

The best way to treat a hangover is to avoid one. Eat a full meal before you start drinking. The food in your stomach will help absorb the alcohol and lessen its affects on you. Drinking on an empty stomach is a surefire way to get a hangover the next morning. While you are drinking, drink plenty of water. For the best results, drink one glass of water for every glass of alcohol you consume.

After you have been drinking, eat something really greasy and salty. They call it bar food for a reason. The salt helps to maintain the fluid in your body so you don't get dehydrated, while the grease deludes the alcohol already in your stomach. When you are done drinking, head to an all-night diner and eat a big greasy breakfast with plenty of bacon or a hamburger.

Once you have a hangover, try drinking an energy drink. They are a good mix of sugar and salt, which will help reduce the dehydration while knocking you out of your fatigue. You can also drink pure fruit juice in the morning as well. Never, never, never take a painkiller after a night of drinking. It will not prevent you from waking up with a headache, and it can be very deadly. If you wake up with a headache, you can take a painkiller then, and it will work just fine.
