Wed, 04 Nov 2009

Excessive Sweating or Hyperhidrosis is an embarrassing and uncomfortable conditioning which usually starts during puberty where sufferers experience an excessive sweating in response to exercise, anxiety, stress, pain and even consuming caffeine and nicotine.

The condition is much more common than once believed however Doctors and Scientists are unsure of its cause(s). What does seem to be clear is that each case is usually slightly different meaning treatment for the condition can be difficult. Not to mention many sufferers aren't taken seriously until they have endured the condition for several years, leaving their self esteem very low.

On top of this finding a cure that works can be difficult. Sometimes it can take doing several different techniques in order to find relief for good, but many sufferers do not know where to turn for help or know how to go about it.

However recently more research has been given to hyperhidrosis. There are several different treatments available to sufferers including Botox, strong antiperspirants, electrical stimulation, surgical cutting, relaxation techniques, and dietary adjustments

Strong antiperspirants are usually the first line of attack on excessive sweating. The most effective being those that contain aluminum zirconium as an active ingredient. You can use this the night before and it can be very effective during the day for many sufferers.

Overcoming anxiety seems to be a huge part in controlling the body's sweating mechanisms. Many sufferers have had great results by implementing stress-relieving and calming techniques in stressful situations. Sufferers can learn to implement these techniques in social situations where most anxiety is felt (fear and worry that people notice the sweat).

Dietary changes can also have a great impact on the amount of stress you produce. Knowing trigger foods can be very helpful.

Surgical cutting is really a last resort once other treatments have been tried extensively with no success and only a small minority ever need to resort to this. This is also more for those who suffer with excessive armpit sweating as opposed to other forms such as excessive head sweating.

If you suffer from this condition, the best thing you can do is research and try holistic treatments first. Making dietary adjustments, learning calming techniques and trying strong antiperspirants can have dramatic effects, so are a worthwhile try before you consider turning to a Doctor.
