Vaccines are important tools that we use to battle diseases. They are an indispensable part of our life, and the way we use them, how, when and why determine to a large extent the way the rules of life apply and play with our immune system.
Whenever we get a disease, we wonder if our body has not been able to really fight the infection. This is one of the reasons why we attribute such importance to vaccinations. Whenever a baby is born, there is a list of mandatory vaccinations to be given, so that the baby stays healthy and remains to be so for a long time. It would be quite interesting to find out how such life-saving vaccinations are made.
Any vaccination comes in what is called a "dose". We have a common knowledge that a dose is something only one person can take. So, for example, we cannot interchange, split or share doses. Every dose is an individual thing and is required to increase a person's immunity. There are many millions of doses of flu vaccines that are being made in the world. These are made out of the last thing that one would suspect: chicken eggs! And, the most important part is that one egg is required per person! So, isn't it fascinating that the flu vaccinations that we know about are all derived from the eggs that seem so inconsequential?
The process that is goes into make a vaccination is fascinating and so, it would be interesting to find out more about it and appreciate the value of the vaccine the next time we receive one.
